Zack Greinke’s peripheral numbers are staggering. His 80 strikeout to nine walk ratio is fantastic. Still, one can be forgiven for wanting a bit more. Greinke’s ERA sits at 4.77, and if it weren’t for the terrific run support he’s getting, the backlash against Greinke would be tremendous. He was lacking a truly shutdown start until Tuesday night’s game against Tampa. Against the Rays, Greinke showed us all why he is one of the league’s best pitchers.
Greinke flashed everything Tuesday night, inducing grounders, missing bats, hitting the corners, and, finally, stranding some runners on base. Greinke still doesn’t have a scoreless outing, but if Tuesday night was any indicator, one is coming soon.
