Game 17 Thought: Kottaras Behind The Dish | Disciples of Uecker

Disciples of Uecker

We'd like to go to the Playoffs, that would be cool.

After slugging a 430 foot bomb as part of the Brewers’ 20-0 decimation of the Pirates, George Kottaras‘s line has risen to .250/.353/.583; two of his three hits have gone for extra bases and he’s drawn three walks. Gregg Zaun is probably only capable of playing 100 games, so it’s good to know that there will be little – if any – offensive drop off between him and Kottaras.

Still, there is likely a defensive drop off. Zaun has been measured as a plus defensive catcher, even though he doesn’t have the best arm. Kottaras has a poor reputation, but I have to wonder how much of that is due to spending much of his Red Sox career catching knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
