MLB.com beat writer Adam McCalvy announced today on his twitter that Jeff Suppan will be heading to the bullpen, and Chris Narveson will replace him in the starting rotation. I’ll have more on the longer term implications of that move tomorrow, but for today, what that move likely means is that neither Suppan nor Narveson will be available to pitch. The bullpen will look like this:
CL: Trevor Hoffman
RHP: LaTroy Hawkins, Todd Coffey, Claudio Vargas, Carlos Villanueva
LHP: Manny Parra
If somebody has to face a left handed batter in a big situation, it will likely be either Manny Parra or Carlos Villanueva, who is effective against lefties due to his changeup. Similarly, Parra shouldn’t be limited to a one out role, as his changeup is effective against right handed batters.
