Game 6 Thought: Outfield Defense? | Disciples of Uecker

Disciples of Uecker

We'd like to go to the Playoffs, that would be cool.

Today, the Brewers will be playing Ryan Braun in LF, Jim Edmonds in CF, and Corey Hart in RF. In their last seasons (’09 for Braun/Hart, and ’08 for Edmonds), this group combined for a -33.5 UZR. This is probably the worst outfield defense that the Brewers can possibly field, as Carlos Gomez is excellent in CF and Jody Gerut is roughly average in CF and above average in the corners.

That means that Randy Wolf is going to want to pound the bottom of the strike zone and avoid fly balls even more than usual tonight. That doesn’t bode terribly well for the Brewers, as Wolf has a FB% ranging from 37-42 over the course of his career, and his 42% fly ball rate last season was in the ten highest among qualified major league starting pitchers.

You mean like that hit to right in the first that should’ve been routine that Hart managed to botch?

Brutal… At least he seemed to find something at the plate.
