Disciples of Uecker

We'd like to go to the Playoffs, that would be cool.

Craig Counsell provided an unlikely spark against St. Louis on Friday night, going 3-for-3 and scoring three runs. He scored the first run of the game on a fantastic slide around Yadier Molina’s tag on a squeeze bunt by Chris Narveson, caught in pixels here:

As usual, click to embiggen. The video can be seen here.

Apparently, Ron Roenicke was impressed by Counsell’s performance last night. The grizzled veteran is in the lineup once again for Saturday night’s tilt, according to the official Brewers twitter account. Personally, I find that move difficult to argue with — Counsell is likely still the best defender of the Wilson-Betancourt-Counsell trio, and even though his bat doesn’t have much life left in it, he can still touch up a righty every once in a while.

I’m not sure how his health will hold up, but personally, I would like to see Counsell begin to see more playing time against right-handed pitchers. If two makes a trend, these starts are a trend I’m enjoying.
