Prospect of the Day:  RHP Mark Williams

Williams garnered attention earlier this season, when he and Chad Thompson combined for a no-hitter with the Timber Rattlers. On Friday evening, he wowed Brewers fans in Appleton with a complete-game, 11-strikeout performance in Game 2 of the doubleheader.

The 22-year-old was never drafted. He pitched for Division III Marietta College in Ohio and enjoyed serious success his senior year, compiling a 1.59 ERA in route to a Division III national championship in 2011. After some time in the independent leagues, Milwaukee swooped in and inked him to a minor-league deal.

Williams has struggled a bit as of late. His last ten appearances have been marred by an unsightly 6.32 ERA. The seasonal numbers, however, are still solid enough with a 3.88 ERA over 92.2 innings with 76 strikeouts and 35 walks. He has bounced around from the starting rotation to the bullpen and back again.

On Friday, he moved back to the starting rotation for the first time since July 22 and absolutely dazzled for the Timber Rattlers. That type of performance could earn him a few more starting nods before the end of the season.
