Prospect of the Week:  OF Lee Haydel

The 24-year-old outfielder is kind of the forgotten man in the Huntsville outfield that already features Kentrail Davis, Khris Davis, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Josh Prince. Monday afternoon marked his first start of the ’12 season, and he went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Not a bad way for the young man to break back into the starting lineup.

Haydel has always been a speedster with intriguing peripheral skills. He does not hit for power or walk all that much, but the defense profiles to eventually be above-average and the batting average has always played due to his exceptional speed. The young man has yet to hit less than .275 in a single stop throughout his professional career.

It will be interesting to see how Haydel fits into the Huntsville outfield schematics after D’Vontrey Richardson returns to a roster. He will presumably begin his ’12 season in Double-A once he recovers from what is presumably an injury.

[UPDATE]

Mass Hass from Brewerfan.net aided me in some fact checking. He pointed out a story from Adam McCalvy this spring, which stated that D’Vontrey Richardson did not report to spring training because he is dealing with personal issues at home.

We wish him the best, and a huge thank you to Mass Hass for correcting my mistake.
