Prospect of the Day:  RHP Hiram Burgos

The 24-year-old right-hander out of Cayey, Puerto Rico took a no-hitter into the ninth inning. He lost the no-hitter after surrendering a single to the leadoff hitter in the frame, but he still put together one of the best outings of the year for a Brewers’ minor league pitcher. He struck out nine and only walked one batter and had a perfect game into the seventh inning.

Burgos was one of my favorite unsung pitchers heading into the 2011 season due to his stronger peripheral numbers and his ability to retire both left-handed and right-handed batters. The assignment to High-A Brevard County did not promote growth on the mound, but the beginning of the 2012 season appears to be vastly different.

It will be intriguing to see how Burgos bounces back in his upcoming start.

Is it at all concerning how bad Nashville is?
