Prospect of the Day:  OF Tyrone Taylor (Class-A Wisconsin)

Taylor is one of the most exciting prospects in the system. He’s only 19 years old and absolutely destroyed the Arizona League and Pioneer League last summer before suffering a shoulder injury, and the Brewers have responded by aggressively promoting him to Class-A Wisconsin to play against older competition. He has held his own thus far — showing the power/speed combination that makes him such an intriguing young player.

In the Timber Rattlers’ double-header yesterday, Taylor went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and a walk. He also showed a little speed with his sixth stolen base of the year. In eight games this month, he’s hitting .296/.345/.444 in the Midwest League, which is a difficult offensive environment.

Taylor remains one of the handful of prospects in the Brewers system that possesses the potential to truly be an above-average player at the big league level. The Brewers have a plethora of prospects who have big-league potential and could potentially be solid contributors, but they don’t have a slew of high-upside guys who could be impact players. Taylor is one of those guys — even if he is quite a ways away from reaching his ceiling.
