Prospect of the Day:  RHP Mike Fiers

It has been a tough start to the 2012 campaign for Fiers. He compiled a 4.63 ERA in the month of April, but the right-hander tossed a beauty on Monday in Game 1 of the double-header against Reno. He struck out five and only allowed five baserunners (no runs) through seven strong innings.

The biggest issue for Fiers this season has been consistently retiring left-handed batters. They are teeing off to the tune of a .273 batting average, while he holds right-handed batters to a .226 average. His changeup should allow him to neutralize lefties better than most right-handed pitchers, but scouts have said that his stuff has not been particularly sharp this year, dating all the way back to spring training.

Hopefully, this stellar start on Monday is a harbinger of positive things to come. The Brewers could very well use another starter this season, and Fiers could be the man called upon to fill a back-end starter role. Coincidentally, that #5 starter position is about his ceiling as a professional baseball player, too.

Should be noted Bradley left his start early due a hamstring strain.

Yes. Gave an update on his injury in my other article today.
