Prospect of the Day:  RHP Casey Medlen

It’s encouraging to see Medlen bounce back from such a rough outing in his previous appearance for Brevard County, in which he gave up four runs in just one inning of work. On Thursday evening, however, he was nails on the mound. He threw two perfect fames and struck out four. That is exactly why the organization likes the 22-year-old so much out of the bullpen.

Interestingly enough, right-handers have given Medlen a world of trouble this year. They are hitting .313 against him to this point in the season. Expect those numbers to decline dramatically, however. His strikeout-to-walk ratio against righties is more than solid at 16-to-3, and the BABIP against him as a whole is .400, according to Minor League Central.

The organization thought enough of the young man to debate skipping him all the way to Double-A to begin the season. After all, they sent him to the Arizona Fall League just last autumn. He and his nasty sinker combine to be a darkhorse candidate for a very solid relief prospect for the Brewers over the next couple of seasons.
