Prospect of the Day: CF Josh Prince
The Brewers drafted Josh Prince out of Tulane University as a shortstop. He really impressed the organization in his professional debut in the Pioneer League, but struggled to really define himself as a player the next couple of years.
This year, however, Prince has moved to center field and has been extremely productive at the plate over the past month. In the month of May, he hit .287/.388/.366 with 13 stolen bases. Things have gotten even better in June, as he is currently sporting a .429/.579/.500 slash line with three stolen bases. His walk rate has jumped, and he continues to utilize his speed on the basepaths, even if he gets caught from overaggressiveness at times.
It’s important to recognize that Josh Prince has well below-average power at the plate. His value comes from his speed and his ability to draw walks. A prospect such as that has a fine line to walk in terms of maintaining relevancy as a prospect, though one of the easiest ways to augment that status is to play a premium defensive position.
Prince is not about to crack the Top 30 Prospects at the All-Star Break, but he is once again commanding attention. It will be particularly interesting to see if he continues this performance through the remainder of the season, or if this hot stretch simply is an aberration and not a representation of true development as a player.

Bah! How can you pick Josh Prince for prospect of the day on a night that Nich Ramirez his a grand salami?
Bianchi. Brewers, call him up now.
