Prospect of the Day:  OF Elvis Rubio

The Brewers signed 17-year-old Elvis Rubio last winter for $95,000. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, the young man was one of the better power bats in the Dominican Republic. As with any young international prospect, however, the chances of them actualizing any of their raw tools is exceedingly slim. On Tuesday, however, Rubio put together a day that hints at the potential he may have in his bat.

The young man went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, and five runs batted in. He already has six extra-base hits in his first 13 games this season, and he has already shown the ability to draw some walks. While any statistics coming out of the Dominican Summer League need to be taken with a grain of salt, it’s always encouraging to see teenagers flash legitimate potential.

Any thoughts on what has happened with Jed Bradley this year? I know it’s early but this is not what I had expected from him so far.

Bradley has been dealing with a groin since the spring, but the reports have not been good. His command has reportedly been spotty, and the most recent velocity readings I received on him had him only sitting 86-90 MPH with the fastball.
