Prospect of the Day:  2B Chris McFarland

The Brewers went overslot to lure McFarland away from his collegiate commitment to Rice University, and the organization has been itching for the 19-year-old to start playing short-season ball ever since. He has come out of the gates strong this year, hitting .321/.361/.411 through 13 games. Most of his damage has come through singles. On Sunday afternoon, though, he connected with his first home run of his professional career — a grand slam in Helena’s seven-run second inning.

Defensively, he should have a home at second base. His value as a prospect lies in his bat, which has the potential to be solid. The Brewers have a couple nice, young players to watch at the plate down in Helena. McFarland and outfielder Michael Reed should be a fun duo to follow this summer.

I thought for sure that the two HRs for Jason Rogers would make him the prospect of the day. I am curious what sort of prospect he is considered to be.
