Prospect of the Day:  RHP Devin Williams (AZL Brewers)

Although he allowed a pair of inherited runs to score immediately after he entered the game, right-hander Devin Williams ultimately threw 3.1 scoreless innings and continued his positive start to his professional debut. He struck out five and only walked one on Monday evening and reports had him throwing 92-94 mph with the fastball. That’s very solid velocity, and for a guy with such a live arm, it’s certainly conceivable that he gains an additional tick or two as he fills out.

It’s certainly encouraging that he hasn’t allowed a run in two outings, but it’s more impressive that he’s not racking up the walks in his first appearances. That bodes well for his command and control going forward — though two starts are obviously not an overall indicator of his skills.

Very positive start for Devin Williams.

Any thoughts on Yadiel Rivera? Seems like the bat is slowly coming along.

Yeah, I was noticing that as well, .429 ave over his last 10 games with a .487/.657/1.144. I’d say that qualifies as a hot streak. But I haven’t heard either– were they “seeing eye” singles, bloopers down the line, or is he driving the ball hard & square. I’d love to hear if anyone has more info.

Also, I don’t know how accurate the Stars Videographer is, but they had Goforth clocked at 98, but mostly 93-95.
