Prospect of the Day: 1B Nick Ramirez
Nick Ramirez is an intriguing prospect because he has massive amounts of game power, some of which can translate into game action. He displayed that plus-power on Wednesday evening, collecting two doubles and a long home run in five at-bats against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. It raised his batting average to .264 on the year and marked his seventh long ball of the season.
The problem is that Ramirez struggles greatly against left-handed pitching (.217 AVG) and struggles with even rudimentary breaking pitches. That does not bode well for the upper levels of the minor leagues. Expect to continue to hear his name this season, as he will absolutely enjoy games such as the one tonight, but do not underestimate the amount of work he will have to put in prior to be considered a legitimate first base prospect.
