Prospect of the Day:  OF Kentrail Davis

In game one of the Huntsville Stars’ doubleheader on Tuesday evening, Kentrail Davis went 3-for-3 with two triples and a home run. It was a welcome offensive outburst from a young man who was saddled with lofty expectations after seeing time in the Arizona Fall League last year.

The production at the plate has simply not happened for Davis. He’s only hitting .265/.343/.386 as a corner outfielder with below-average power numbers and more than a strikeout per game. As much as scouts lauded his hit tool coming out of the University of Tennessee in 2009, the perennial results have been nothing but underwhelming.

Hopefully, Tuesday evening marked a turning point in the season for the 24-year-old. He has become and afterthought in the prospect world, though a breakout second half could put him firmly back on the radar due to his pre-draft hype.
