Prospect of the Day:  C Adam Weisenburger

The 23-year-old catcher out of the University of Miami (OH) hit his first professional home run on Wednesday and followed it up with his second on Thursday evening. Over the past two days, he has been 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, and two walks. It’s safe to say this is the best two-game stretch of his career at the plate.

The Minnesota native is better known for his ability to handle a pitching staff, though. He began the season with Brevard County and caught left-hander Jed Bradley early in the year during his scoreless stretch, but eventually moved to Double-A Huntsville to provide some depth to the organization at that level.

Every organization needs players — especially catchers — like Weisenburger. The young man will likely never see an inning at the major league level. That doesn’t mean that he does not provide value to the organization, though. Farm systems need clubhouse guys, defensive specialist, savvy catchers, etc.

Every once in a while, however, an organizational player finds lightning in a bottle at the plate. Weisenburger has experienced that over the past couple of days.

This Lucroy kid in Appleton looks like he’s got a chance to make it to the majors…best of luck kid.

Seriously though, glad to see him knock off the rust quickly.

Just a little housekeeping…. The U of Miami is in Florida, Miami University is in Ohio.
