Prospect of the Day:  1B Jason Rogers (Double-A Huntsville)

Over the last two days, Jason Rogers has gone 5-for-8 with four home runs, 7 RBI, one walk and two strikeouts. That will easily secure the POTD honors. He’s been putting on a show at the plate in recent days, which is encouraging because he only hit .126/.236/.147 during the month of June. However, his bat has come alive in the last couple weeks, and he’s OPS-ing 1.089 in his last 12 games.

Rogers has always hit throughout his minor league career. He’s a career .277/.358/.432 hitter in four professional seasons, and this is the first year in which he has compiled a batting average under the .275 mark. He’s traditionally shown a solid eye at the plate and doesn’t strikeout too much — but as someone who doesn’t project anywhere defensively other than first base, his power needs to be elite. Without elite power, he’s very much a Sean Halton type prospect, except without the flexibility to play a corner outfield spot.

Suter, 31st round pick in last year’s draft. 10 quality starts (out of 13) for Brevard, 1.08 WHIP. Awesome. He’s out- pitching Bradley (6 quality starts, 1.53WHIP). Unbelievable.
