Prospect of the Day:  RHP Preston Gainey (Class-A Wisconsin)

Gainey is an interesting story because he left the United States Naval Academy to pursue his dreams on the baseball diamond. It’s not often minor-league players come from the military ranks, but the right-hander shows he belongs as a professional by throwing in the high-80s to low-90s with his fastball and has a slider that flashed plus in college. On Wednesday, he tossed seven scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and three walks. Opposing teams are hitting .305 off Gainey this year, but on Wednesday, the Clinton LumberKings (Twins’ affiliate) couldn’t touch him.

I’ve really enjoyed watching Goforth’s development as a starter. A very pleasant surprise. Is it an innings thing or something that he’s throwing out of the pen?
