Prospect of the Day:  OF Victor Roache (Class-A Wisconsin)

We’ve talked about Victor Roache a lot in this space. He has monster power to all fields, but scouts are concerned his hit tool may never progress enough to allow him to tap into that power at the higher levels. Those concerns have obviously not floated away in the past couple weeks. However, Roache has recently shifted to another gear in Appleton. Since the beginning of July, the slugging outfielder is hitting .306/.374/.629 with 10 home runs. He’s talked about feeling comfortable for the first time since college in interviews, and one has to wonder if he’s finally starting to trust his wrist again.

One point I like to make about many young sluggers: he’s feasting on opposite-handed pitching while getting handcuffed by righties.

vs. RHP:  .223/.296/.414
vs. LHP:  .323/.407/.538

Granted, he has collected 14 of his 17 home runs against right-handed pitchers, but in general, they’ve given him fits all season. That severe platoon split will be something to watch as he progresses through the minor-league system, as it would hamper his major-league outlook if he begins to project as a mere platoon option at a corner outfield position.
