Prospect of the Day:  RHP Taylor Jungmann

After a rough patch in the month of July, Taylor Jungmann has been stellar in his three starts in August. He has struck out 19 batters in 20 total innings. In addition, the right-hander has only surrendered three earned runs over that time frame. These results are much more what the organization expected from a #12 selection in the MLB Draft.

Jungmann said earlier in the season that he was altering his curveball grip. Perhaps that in-season tinkering led to depressed strikeout numbers and mediocre results in the summer months. Furthermore, perhaps his recent string of solid appearances signal that his new curveball is somewhat “fixed” and ready for consistent game-action.

With Nick Bucci dominating the Florida State League in his rehab starts and poised for a promotion to Huntsville, expect Jungmann to remain with the Manatees throughout the remainder of the season. He could get the nod to pitch in the Arizona Fall League after the regular season, though his innings totals (137 innings) may prevent the young man from receiving that invitation.

Jungmann, Bucci and Nelson likely in AA next season. Burgos, Peralta and Thornburg in AAA. And the potential of Hellweg, hell yea I like this group.
