Prospect of the Day: OF Caleb Gindl
It has been a rough year for Gindl, who has simply not been able to match his tremendous 2011 season at the plate. He looked to have turned it around in July, when he hit .319/.370/.527 over 25 games, but he has slipped back into a funk at the plate in August.
That is, until Tuesday evening. Gindl connected with a pair of home runs, only his second and third home run of the entire month. It sparked the Sounds’ offense and helped Nashville cruise to an easy victory over Omaha.
Last year and even into this spring, scouts had very little doubts that Gindl would be able to hit at the major league level. His issue was always whether or not he would hit for enough power to man a corner outfield spot — and unfortunately, those questions have only gotten more serious with his disappointing performance in 2012.
