Prospect of the Day:  RHP Zach Quintana

The young right-hander finally found some success on the mound Monday evening, which is a welcome change compared to the remainder of the year. Even with the five innings on Monday, he still has compiled a 6.10 ERA through the month of August. He has experienced some trouble throwing the baseball for strikes, as evidenced by his 22 walks in only 43.1 innings.

Lefties are also killing Zach thus far in his professional career. They’re hitting .313 against him with a 14-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio, while righties are only hitting .211 with a 25-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio. I haven’t talked to any scouts about the young man this summer, but one can only imagine his struggles against lefties stem from the lack of a changeup.

It will be interesting to see how he performs next season after receiving the chance to work in-depth with a pitching coach in instructionals this fall and next spring in camp.

Any reason to be excited about Brandon Kintzler?
