Prospect of the Day:  RHP Tyler Cravy (High-A Brevard County)

Tyler Cravy has bounced between the starting rotation and the bullpen throughout his professional career, but it appeared he had officially transitioned to a relief role last year with the Timber Rattlers. He appeared in 24 games, had three saves and compiled a solid 3.38 ERA in 50.2 innings. And while Brevard County utilized him in the same role to start this season, he has recently moved back to the starting rotation and is throwing the ball exceedingly well.

Since the beginning of June, Cravy owns a sparkling 1.06 ERA in 59.1 innings. He’s held opposing hitters to a .197 batting average — which is bolstered by a .253 BABIP, but would still be plenty good with some regression. The right-hander has always been a big strikeout guy with an extreme over-the-top delivery. In the same stretch, he’s struck out 51 batters in those 59.1 innings.

The Brewers drafted Cravy out of Napa Valley Junior College in the 17th round of the 2009 Draft. He’s often been too hittable and has been home-run prone, at times, but the young man is putting together a wonderful second half to the 2013 campaign.
