Prospect of the Day:  OF D’Vontrey Richardson (High-A Brevard County)

After not playing a single inning during the ’12 campaign, D’Vontrey Richardson has returned to the Brewers organization and has picked up right where he left off. Through 48 games, he’s hitting .326/.373/.404 with 10 doubles, a triple and a home run. Yeah, he’s a 25-year-old in High-A ball, but considering his baseball background and his extended leave, it’s pretty impressive that he’s been able to jump back into professional baseball and find success at the plate.

I have to admit, though, I’m a little lost as far as his prospect status. He’s always been a raw, athletic center field prospect. Now, he’s a raw, athletic center field prospect who took a year off from baseball and is now 25 years old … and is only in A-ball. I have trouble trying to place an accurate value on that type of prospect, even if I did like him as a developmental prospect in 2010 and 2011.
