Prospect of the Day:  3B Mike Walker

Recently named a postseason All-Star in the Florida State League, Mike Walker is celebrating the honor with a power binge at the plate. He has hit three home runs in the last two games, along with a double and two walks. It raised his yearly slash line to .279/.358/.415 with 12 home runs — which is not terrible, considering the league and home ballpark.

Walker profiles as a nice organizational player, as he moves up the minor league ranks. His struggles against left-handed pitching, his strikeout rate, and his fringe defense at third base should keep him from making the majors. He is the type of player, however, who could eventually put up gaudy numbers at times in the Pacific Coast League due to the crazy run environment there and push for a cup of coffee at the big league level — though, again, he doesn’t profile to stick at the major league level at this point in his career.
