The Sounds managed just one run on a Sean Halton solo home run as they fell to Memphis 8-1. Michael Blazek took the loss after giving up five runs in 4.2 innings to fall to 1-4. Halton and Jason Rogers each collected two hits for Nashville while Matt Clark singled for the only other hit of the game for the Sounds.
The Stars were off on Wednesday. They return to the diamond on Thursday night when they travel to Chattanooga to open a series with the Dodgers Double-A affiliate.
Tyler Wagner was brilliant once again, working in to the ninth inning as the Manatees won 3-1. Wagner went 8.1 innings, allowing just one run as he improved his record to 8-4. Mark Williams got the final two outs to record the save. Alfredo Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run whil Victor Roache and Parker Berberet each went 2-for-4 with a double.
The Timber Rattlers got an inside-the-park home run from Angel Ortega as they knocked off Cedar Rapids 5-2. Clint Terry started and got the win after going 5.1 innings and giving up only one run. Barrett Astin worked the final two frames without allowing a run to earn the save. Rafael Neda had the lone multi-hit game for Wisconsin, going 2-for-4 while Ortega knocked in four of the Rattlers five runs.
Orem scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh off Devin Williams as they knocked off Helena 8-3. Brandon Woodruff started and went four innings, allowing two runs before giving way to Williams. Wesley Cox worked a scoreless eighth. Alan Sharkey went 3-for-4 with a double and knocked in two runs Francisco Castillo added two hits in four at bats.
AZL BREWERS Idle
The Brewers rookie league affiliate in Maryvale had an off day on Wednesday. They will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Camelback Ranch to take on the White Sox affiliate.
Despite out-hitting the Pirates 8-7, the Brewers fell on Wednesday by a score of 6-4. Yosmer Leal started and took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, in five innings of work. Juan Diaz followed and worked two innings, allowing just an unearned run and Orlando Torrez surrendered a run in one inning on the mound. Julio Mendez and Roosevert Chal each came up with two hits for the Brewers while Nicol Valderrey launched his first professional home run.
