The next issue of the Brewsletter, the Brewers newsletter here at Disciples of Uecker, is coming next Monday. Here’s a look at what you can expect to see inside:
This issue will focus on two prominent former Brewers currently plying their trades elsewhere: Brett Lawrie in Toronto and Ned Yost in Kansas City.
Brett Lawrie has been a source of regret for Brewers fans ever since Shaun Marcum collapsed down the stretch in 2011. At the time, Lawrie was tearing through the major leagues; he hit nine homers in 43 games for Toronto to finish the season and he slugged .580 — reminiscent of Ryan Braun’s rookie year. Lately, though, Lawrie has struggled — he has just a 91 OPS+ in the two years since, and his attitude, one of the driving forces behind his exit in Milwaukee, has become an issue on multiple occasions in Toronto. The Brewsletter will revisit the past, present and future of that fateful trade.
Ned Yost’s exit, in contrast, was hardly lamented. Yost’s timeline in Kansas City has been eerily similar to his timeline in Milwaukee. Expectations are starting to pile up on a Royals team which hasn’t seen the postseason since 1985 (sound familiar?). With the Royals six games under .500 as of this writing, Yost’s seat is starting to get hot again. Has he learned anything since his ugly denouement in Milwaukee?
