Here are some brief trade rumors that have been swirling this morning:
>> Doug Melvin had resisted tipping his hand in earlier weeks, but this morning’s story in The Capital Times has some telling quotations.
“And I don’t view it as selling, we’re just trying to make an adjustment to your club for the following years.
What you have to determine is whether you want something back that’s closer to the big leagues, or something that’s further away. All teams have to determine that. You just do your homework and do the best you can.”
>> The Washington Nationals are reportedly interested in right-hander Zack Greinke. They may not have the pieces to facilitate a trade, however, as many of their top prospects went to Oakland in the Gio Gonzalez trade prior to the season.
>> Rangers’ manager Ron Washington says that shortstop Jurickson Profar is “going nowhere” this summer, as we have been saying over the past two months. He does make a point that everyone else in the system has to be considered movable, which could mean that third baseman Mike Olt could be available.
>> Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reported this morning that the Toronto Blue Jays are still in buy mode this summer. They will most certainly be searching for starting pitching, as their starting rotation has a cumulative 4.59 ERA (4.88 FIP) this season, and they certainly have the farm system to facilitate a deal for Greinke.
